Eiger

Today I finally got around to reading the second part of the Eiger article entitled The Eiger Contradiction Part II in Aplinist Magazine. The cover of that particular issue is a shot taken from the film The Eiger Sanction. It was taken from above and shows Clint Eastwood hanging on the Eiger north wall with Grindelwald far down below in the distance.
Strangely enough, I turn on the tv tonight only to find that The Eiger Sanction is on. What are the odds?

The article really gave me a new and humbling perspective on what is arguably the most famous, historical,  and revered climbing mountain in the world.
Being around it so much all my life..you hear all the old stories and rumblings. This article truly puts everything into focus.
Its just very strange to think that a mountain that is practically in our cousins backyard has such momentous history and influence.
For me, its always been just something that you didn't even think twice about..just another mountain among many that was always there looming in the distance.
Just goes to show how spoiled we all are.

Snow Swimming

We are in the middle of a heatwave in San Diego and all I can think about is Swiss winter. Man do I miss the COLD right about now! (I also remember going into this pool in the middle of July in the peak of summer and it was still too freezing to stay in)

Niesen

It is amazing how important and vital a singular mountain can be in life. This might be one of the greatest things that I miss about living in Switzerland. Just the stability and comfort of knowing that every time I could look out the window there it would be. Living at the foot of an Alp is extremely humbling. It really makes you realize just how insignificant you are in the greater scheme of the world. I can't tell you how many times a day I would look up at this.
Living next to The Alps is a lot like living next to the ocean. You don't realize how much you are drawn to each respectively until they are suddenly not there. I remember when I came back to San Diego I kept looking out my bedroom window continuously. The mind is a strange thing. I knew I was back in SD yet I couldn't help but keep parting the blinds looking out hoping that maybe it might have magically appeared out of thin air.
