I took this shot on my plane ride from Geneva to Barcelona. This was the first day some airports started to allow limited air travel after the historic Eyjafjallajokull Iceland volcano eruption and subsuquent ash plume. It was actually an extremely clear day and I had a great view of the Alps and then the Mediterranean coastline. When taking this photo..to be honest, at the time I really wasn't sure what city this was or exactly where along the Mediterranean I was. Thanks to google maps though I was able to see that this is indeed Marseille, France.
The body of water in the lower left of the photo is the Etanf de Berre. I'm pretty sure that it is a freshwater lake. The body of water in the upper right just under the wing is the Mediterranean Sea.
Marseille can be seen just above the skinny white cloud. There is a small island just offshore too. After Paris, Marseille is the second largest city in France. Hopefully one day I'll get to experience Marseille from the ground looking up.
