Gilgo Beach..Long Island, New York
Going to the beach in New York is such a surreal experience. Really hard to put into words. Its an adventure as much it is another world unto itself. Something really cool about lounging around lazily on the beach and bodysurfing in the ocean all afternoon, and then driving back into the city later that same evening. It is really a lot cooler at the beach too compared to Manhattan. These pictures were taken on Friday afternoon the 27th of May, the start of memorial weekend. Going to the beach seems like a real event in ny and memorial day is a huge deal. Its the official kickoff of the summer season and there's a definite excitement in the air...all the summer shops, restaurants, stands, stores getting stocked and ready. Lots of cool beach, boating, and shore clubs with concerts and big events planned all prepping for summer. These pics are of the bayside of Gilgo beach on Long Island. This place was really cool. Its a lot like silver strand coronado in San Diego. The beach is on one side and there's a tunnel under the road leading here to the bay/boardwalk. If you have a boat you can just drive up, dock, and have a BBQ or go to the beach. The coolest thing about this place is the view and your surroundings. From here you can see all the various bays and little islands throughout Long Island. Out here it is pretty remote and natural yet it is an awesome contrast because on clear days(it was perfect when we where there) you can actually see the skyline of the city far off in the distance. If you look closely at the bottom picture you can get a sense of this. I think next summer I'll definitely be going back for some more New York beach fun.

3000!
DJ3K
The old house in the bronx...where we were witness to so many historic moments for Jeter. The playoff hr against the orioles in '96, the dive against the bosox, Mr November, the list goes on and on...and who could forget The Speech.
The House That Jeter Built
Celebrating the 27th Championship and Jeter addressing the crowd downtown at the parade..
Jeter earlier this season at a game at the stadium in late May.
Wow what a historic day in the Bronx. That was probably the most exciting baseball game I have seen since game 6 of the 2009 world series. The homerun for 3000 was just UNBELIEVABLE! But then again its Jeter and that's just what he does.
5-5 with the hr and the game winning hit...I mean COME ON..Seriously?
The intangibles from today are just scary:
#2
2nd hit of the game
2pm exactly at time of hr
2nd player to hit a hr for 3000 hit
2nd player to get 5 hits on day of getting 3000
FYI: Calling this great moment on YES was Fordham Alum Michael Kay. It was such an emotionally exhilarating yet classy call.
Another tidbit:
Jeter is the 28 player in mlb history to get 3000 hits.
If the Yankees win it all this year it will be their 28th Championship
