Summer's Almost Here

An ode to quintessential California summer surfing

Summer +Malibu = Epic. It's just that simple.

Summer days at Malibu are something that I always look forward to and cherish. Nothing but great times, great waves, great friends, great stories. Stuff that defines growing up. Took so many road trips during those days. Stayed just about everywhere. What special times those were.
Never made it up to the bu last summer unfortunately..so this year gonna bring it back just like old times.
Writing Excerpt from September 2006 via my old blog:

"darkness grows and the los angeles lights illuminate the far south coastline. waves loom and break untouched. the east breeze nudging slowly out to sea. nobody around. the time is right and off you go into the dark warping wall of water, legs crouched arms straight ahead gliding along climbing and dropping with not a thing on the mind. sections connect and then break behind you as you whiz right along. suddenly the friend who was waiting for you way down the point is now long gone in your wake. step off in soft sand and up the shore now its you waiting for the friend. laughter adds depth to the breaking surf and cars zooming by a world away up on pacific coast highway."

So here's to Malibu and longboarding and perfect pointbreaks and summer and great times with great people.

Hiding in the Sand

Travels are a lot like footprints in the sand. At anytime You can look back at where you've been and the path that led you to this particular point in the world. The future ahead is wide open for you to take with the path and direction being purely up to you. Destiny is yours.
You make tracks wherever you go in this world whether you're walking on fresh sand or not. The footprints you leave are always there in some form. Over time they just get covered up with layers. Years pass, life continues on, people come and go,  memories become more vivid or blurred.

Those traveling footsteps shape the person you will become or have become already.

                                   (life changing footsteps in Tarifa)

Too many layers are accumulating over my past travels and footprints.
Life in San Diego is getting awfully stale. I need to start making some new                                             tracks across the globe.

We Are Young

April in New York is one of my favorite times of the year. Temps are warming but still crisp, baseball's back, people starting to venture outside from their winter hibernation. There is just a great excitement in the air throughout the city during this time of year. Last time I visited nyc it snowed, so naturally this time around it was during a rare April heatwave. The hottest days of the year so far.

Good morning New Jersey..gotta cross that tunnel to the otherside..

Love it..home sweet home

York park..

Cafe Select for Thursday dinner..first time I've had Rivella in 1.5yrs

2nd Ave..UES

Friday the 13th. Yankees 1pm
Forecast "feels summery"

Opening day baseball in the Bronx!! Hip Hip Jorge throws out the first pitch. Swisher crushes a bases clearing 3 run double in the 1st inning. Hiroki Kuroda pitches a gem. . A-Rod hits an A-Bomb! Yanks win 5-0.
An absolutely beautiful day in the Bronx. Sunny but not too warm and just perfect. Great atmosphere watching the game with the rowdy bronx bar crowd at a cool spot mere steps from the stadium. The 4train rumbling overhead every so adding to the awesome vibe.

Wouldn't miss it for the world..

Right field with the bleacher creatures.
Roll Call was a blast.(If you don't know, at the start of every game the bleacher creatures yell out at every starting player until they acknowledge with a gesture.)

After the yankee game we met Amy at Bronx Ale House for a late lunch/early dinner. Subway was down for repairs so we had to take a shuttle bus the rest of the way up to 238th.

Damn that was a fast trip. Overall EPIC. The visit every 5 1/2months thing just isn't cutting it anymore though. Definitely gonna try to make it out again over summer. Life is too short not to spend it with the people who care and are genuine. Thanks everyone..
