I got to go visit Chelsea in New York City for the end of October/beginning of November. Saturday morning the 29th we awoke to the freak snowstorm of October 2011...Aka Snowtober.
This RARE storm was record breaker, by far. This is only the 4th time in recorded history that NYC has seen snow in October, the previous being 1870, 1925, and 1952 and all those seeing less than 1inch. By Saturday's end, Central Park recorded 2.9inches which broke the previous record of 0.8 inches set in 1925. The Bronx saw up to 6inches of snow.
It was absolutely INSANE.
It doesn't look like a lot of snow in some of the pictures I took but trust me it was. It was the most snow I've seen falling since I was in Switzerland. Workers were walking around midtown with push carts dispensing salt. Others were shoveling it off the sidewalks creating snow mounds off the curb. Walking through the slush and trying to cross the streets was a challenge in normal shoes.
In the morning..
Starting to accumulate..
Rockefeller Center
Downed tree completely blocking the street a few blocks away from Chelsea's place..
The day after in Central Park
The next day we went up to the Bronx and Fordham still had tons of snow..
At one point on Saturday we went to a bar called Zum Schneider for lunch and Octoberfest. It felt like we could be in Europe in winter...sitting inside at wooden tables drinking German beer, eating and watching the snow fall outside. Just soo surreal. Then going around at night for Halloween in our costumes through the snow and fallen trees.
Most of my trips to New York are memorable, unique, and extremely fun in their own right.
This trip was something else all together. Nothing short of awesome! Definitely is one of the best out of all of them..
What you got in store for me next time sister and NYC? I can only imagine..
